Well Child Exam Q&A

What is a well-child exam?

A well-child exam is a comprehensive evaluation of your child’s overall health, growth, and development. It’s one of the most important health exams for your child.

The well-child exam gives the team at Pediatric Care of Chelsea an opportunity to find issues early on (when they’re more responsive to treatment), and ensure your child is meeting their developmental milestones.

These exams are always tailored to your child’s age, health history, and individual needs.

What happens during a well-child exam?

What happens during a well-child exam at Pediatric Care of Chelsea depends on your child’s age and health needs. The team reviews your child’s medical history, checks their weight and height, and asks about their diet and exercise habits.

The team does a vision and hearing test, checks blood pressure and heart rate, and listens to your child’s heart and lungs. They also palpate the organs, evaluate the skin, and assess muscles and joints.

Additionally, the team asks specific questions about your child’s development to see if they’re meeting their developmental milestones based on their age, like walking, talking, and playing.

The team also reviews your child’s vaccination records and asks about their behavior and social and emotional well-being.

After the exam, your provider at Pediatric Care of Chelsea spends time talking to you about your child’s health and makes recommendations to ensure your child continues on a positive path.  When appropriate the team makes recommendations to specialists to ensure your child gets the extra care they need to catch up developmentally or manage a specific health condition.
